Pain is more than a nuisance for some. It can interfere with enjoying their daily lives or even with their job. Some individuals receive a prescription for an analgesic or use over-the-counter options, but these come with their share of side effects. At Downtown Chiropractic, Inc., our Dr. Michael Maggio crafts a treatment plan especially for your needs and can treat a variety of conditions.
Your spine is susceptible to degeneration as you age. Both the vertebrae and discs in your back can wear out over time. Individuals who are overweight or who smoke are more likely to experience degeneration. As degeneration happens, you’re at a greater risk for developing issues like a herniated or bulging disc.
Herniated or Bulging Disc
A herniated disc occurs when a disc tears. The contents inside of the disc may leak into the spinal canal. On the other hand, a bulging disc happens when the shell of the disc weakens. The contents begin pushing on the shell and cause it to bulge.
Spinal stenosis is a condition where your spinal canal narrows. As it shrinks in girth, it places pressure on the nerves inside of your spinal cord. As a result, you may experience nerve-related symptoms, including pain, weakness, numbness, or tingling.
Strain or Sprain
You could visit our chiropractor for a strain or a sprain. A strain affects the muscle. It occurs when either the muscle tears or stretches too much. A sprain, on the other hand, is when you damage a ligament.
Whiplash affects your neck. It’s often the result of a rear-end automobile accident that propels your neck forward and then backward quickly. The force damages the nerves and ligaments. It causes you to feel pain and limits the range of motion in your neck. Some individuals experience mood disturbances, headaches, sleep problems, and depression.
Tendinitis and Bursitis
If you have tendinitis, you’ll experience pain. It may worsen when you move. It’s a condition that occurs when you have inflammation in a tendon. Commonly, we see individuals who experience it in their shoulder. Bursitis, on the other hand, is inflammation in the bursa. Most patients who come into our office have it in their shoulders.
Sports and Automobile Injuries
People who play sports are at risk for many of the injuries listed above as well as others, especially as a result of overusing the muscles or ligaments. The trauma from a car accident may lead to many of the aforementioned conditions in addition to others.
